DRAGON PORTALS HD [TOUCHPAD] - REVIEW (81%)
Dragon Portals HD is a 3 in a row puzzle game released by10tons Ltd.

"The friendly dragons have been bound to earth with dark magic. You have the chance to save the dragons with our radiant heroine Mila... Free the dragons by activating the Dragon Portals with your amazing orb matching skills!"
In Dragon Portals HD you have three different game modes to select from:
- Adventure - The campaign of the game, as you progress in this you will unlock the other two modes.
- Survival - Keep playing trying to keep the dragons in the air.
- Islands - Unlocked when you complete the first island. Similar to Survival mode, but played per island.
The idea of the game is that several chinese dragons will appear on the screen flying above the game. They start to glide towards the ground, and can only be saved by matching coloured orbs on their sides. If you make a match the descent with slow, and on a big match they may even regain a little height.
Orb matching is done by dropping an orb from a row into the row below (or off the bottom of the screen). Orbs will only drop if they will make a row of three + below, or make a row of 3 or more on then row it is dropping from. The game helpfully shows (by flashing an orb) a suggested orb to move if you are having issues finding one.
There are lots of power ups along the ways, you have up to three power ups active at one time. There is a passive power with helps with the gameplay (like cutting down the number of colours), then you have two more active powers. These can be destroying lines of orbs, or a wind that will lift the dragons a little when triggered. These active power ups only appear when you do a four in a row match etc, so if you are only doing three in a rows, then you are not likely to see many.
The game has around 70 levels so there is a lot of longevity here, and by use of the power ups and things like locking orbs adds some variety to the gameplay to keep things interesting.
The graphics and sound are very good. There is some beautiful and relaxing music in the game with an asian feel.
On the upside:
- Bright and Colourful.
- Nicely designed puzzle game.
- Over 70 levels, so lots of longevity.
On the downside:
- Dragons descent seemed a little too fast for me.
- Hard to master.
Overall, this is an enjoyable puzzle game and will keep you playing for a long time. I found it a little more difficult to get into than 10tons other games (Sparkle HD and Azkend HD), but it is still a good game. It you are into your three in a row puzzle games then this is well worth a look.
